There's No Place Like Home Parts 2 and 3

Click your heels three times, and say, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.” And then realize that being home will SUCK if you are one of the Oceanic 6.

That was a pretty intense episode, and yes, we finally got some answers. I almost cried (almost because my husband would have rolled his eyes at me if I had) twice. Let’s discuss what happened:

1. The episode picks up where last season ended, with Jack and Kate meet outside the airport and he tries to convince her that they “need to go back.” Jack still has the horrible beard (which I would describe in detail if it didn’t remind me of something very disgusting). They discuss the obituary and reveal that it was “Jeremy Bentham.” Did you fall for that red herring? I almost did, but I thought it would be too obvious if Ben were to go by Bentham.

2. It has been 3 years since they left the island.

3. Holy Walt! Clearly there was no way they could have Walt appear on the island again as he looks about 20 now. When he visits Hurley, he says he expected the O6 to visit him but they never did, except for Bentham. Hurley said he did it to protect the people still on the island.

4. Top Sawyer nickname for the night: “Kenny Rogers”

5. On the beach – Juliet keeps her word (unlike someone else who likes to play martyr) that she will make sure everyone gets off the island . . . only to be left with a bottle of Dharma Scotch and a half naked, glistening Sawyer.

6. Best zinger of the night goes to Rose – “Who told you you could eat those peanuts?” Miles – “May I eat these peanuts?” Rose – “You’re very dire.”

7. Miles wants to stay on the island. Why? He also reveals that Charlotte should want to stay after she has “spent so much time trying to get back here.” Charlotte reveals to puppy-love Daniel that she’s still trying to find “where she was born.”

8. Does anyone else find Keamy strangely sexy in a villainous-evil way?

9. THIS WEEK IN LOST LITERATURE: Though it was not overt, the explosion of the freighter was definitely parallel with The Stand, which the writers have cited as one of their favorite books.

10. IF YOU WEREN’T TEARY, YOU HAVE NO SOUL MOMENT: When Jin comes out of the freighter door just in time to see the helicopter fly away . . . and then was blown to bits. Poor Sun – she was quite a convincing screamer.

11. Kate makes a deal with the Others to save Ben in exchange for passage off the island. I was wondering why in the hell Kate would help Ben.

12. So here is my biggest question – AFTER ALL HIS MARTYR-LIKE TALK, HOW COULD JACK JUST GET ON THE HELICOPTER AND LEAVE? That explains his future-self mantra, “We need to go back!” He totally abandoned all those people.

13. Orchid Station –
-- Dr. Edward Halifax (aka Dr. Marvin Candle) explains on the video that they are experimenting w/ space and time.
-- The pod is not “the magic box,” according to Ben. But it does seem to be under that pod somewhere.
-- The tape malfunctions before Locke can see what happened to 15.

14. MOST HEROIC MOMENT OF THE NIGHT: Sawyer jumps from the copter. What do you think he whispered to Kate? I still think it is to find his daughter. We see all his paternal instincts with Aaron. His arrival at the beach also wins him the SEXIEST MOMENT OF THE NIGHT.

15. Is Michael dead? Christian (who I still argue is God) tells him, “You can go now.” I think he means from this world.

16. Sun blames two men for her husband’s death – her father and JACK. What does she want from Widmore? And when she says, “We’re not the only ones who left the island” is she referring to Desmond? Is she going to help Widmore find him? Or Ben? Or “Jeremy”?

17. THIS WEEK IN BIBLE STUDIES: Ok, folks, this is key. Jeremiah:
According to the book, the Prophet Jeremiah was a son of a priest from Anatot in the land of Benjamin, who lived in the last years of the Kingdom of Judah just prior to, during, and immediately after the siege of Jerusalem, culminating in the destruction of Solomon's Temple and the raiding of the city by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. According to the book, for a quarter century prior to the destruction, Jeremiah repeatedly issued prophecies predicting God's forthcoming judgment; advocating the Jews put down their idols and repent in hopes of turning away God's judgment and fulfilling their destiny as his chosen people. Jeremiah's fellow Jews refused to heed his warnings and did not repent. His efforts failed and he witnessed the destruction of everything he knew, the exile of the Jewish elite to Babylonia, and the fleeing of the remainder to Egypt.
The book of Jeremiah depicts a remarkably introspective prophet, a prophet struggling with and often overwhelmed by the role into which he has been thrust. Jeremiah alternates efforts to warn the people with pleas to God for mercy until he is ordered to "pray no more for this people" -- and then sneaks in a few extra pleas between the lines. He engages in extensive performance art, walking about in the streets with a yoke about his neck and engaging in other efforts to attract attention. He is taunted and put into jail. At one point he is thrown into a pit to die. He is often bitter about his experience, and expresses the anger and frustration he feels. (wikipedia.com)
JEREMIAH 2:4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob . . .

18. YOU ARE ALSO WITHOUT A SOUL IF YOU WEREN’T MOVED BY: Penny and Desmond’s reunion. Do you really think they got their happy ending?

19. KEY QUESTION OF THE NIGHT: How in the world does a baby survive all that little Aaron was put through? Could it be he is the grandson of God? Hmmmm . . .

20. So what do you think about the Time Loop Theory now? The writers were tricky with the whole thing . . . first the video kind of confirmed it, then Ben debunked it, but then Ben moved the island.

21. Speaking of moving the island . . . isn’t that the noise we’ve been hearing since episode one? Is it possible the island has moved before during the Losties’ stay?

22. Hugo plays checkers with Eko. Apparently they couldn’t convince the actor to make a “ghost” appearance.

23. Claire tells Kate not to dare take Aaron back to that place.

24. HOLY CRAP MOMENT: Ben enters the funeral parlor, confirming that it is not he who is dead. They discuss Jack’s encounter w/ Bentham, in which Bentham blamed Jack for “some very bad things that happened on the island” after they left. Ben tells Jack that they all need to go if they want to get back to the island including the body of . . . LOCKE!
25. IN REVIEW (Add if you can):
--Answers –
-Locke was in the coffin
-how they got off the island
-how long it has been since they left
-why they lie.
-the noise
--Remaining Questions
- Where is Claire?
- Four-toed statue?
- Who is Richard?
- Who is Jacob?
- Why are people cured on the island?
- What do those damned whispers say?
- Could Kate be more annoying? What about Jack?
--New Questions:
-How did Locke get off the island? (Clearly, as the new “Ben,” Richard probably taught him how to “travel.”)
-Does Locke recognize Richard from earlier in his life?
-Did Locke really kill himself?
-Why does Miles want to stay on the island?
-When was Charlotte on the island before?
-What happened to the people on the raft/boat that were headed toward the freighter? My boy Daniel?
-What bad things happened on the island after the O6 left?

In case you missed it, right before the last segment of the show there was a commercial for Octagon Global Recruiting. This is a Lost online experience. I will probably casually participate, and if anything of interest is revealed, you know I will post it here.

Until next season,

There's No Place Like Home

The season is winding down. Only two more hours of Lost this season, and there’s no episode next week. So make the most of this edition of Ramblings . . .

1. Copter Parents:
· The Oceanic 6 arrive in Honolulu. They agree to meet with the press.
· The story is that the plane crashed in the ocean, they survived on “floatation devices,” got to an island, Membata.
· Membata means “doubt”
· Poor old Kate (gag) had no one waiting for her. Boo frickin hoo.
· Sayid also thought no one was waiting for him . . . but along came Nadia. YAY!

2. Strangest detail of the Oceanic 6 – Kate tells reporters that Aaron is just over 5 weeks old. That means that either they have traveled back in time or Aaron is not Aaron. I would say it is time travel . . .

3. El Donk told me about the time loop theory a while ago, but I just had to time to check it out. There’s a long, very detailed theory on the web, some of which makes a lot of sense, some of which I disagree. Here’s the gist of it:
a. The Island has mysterious magnet force, which was discovered by Alvar Hanso and the crew of the Black Rock. This spurred the creation of the Dharma Initiative.
b. The Dharma Initiative created a time machine.
c. Ben’s mother was a part of the initial group (I don’t agree with this theory). She got fed up with the group, seeing that it wasn’t providing anything useful to society, traveled back in time and had Ben. The cost of this was her life. (This doesn’t jive if Ben and Locke are indeed brothers).
d. The DI experimented initially with animals – that explains why the Polar Bears are in different places around the world and at different times.
e. Richard and Jacob were a part of the initial group, but when DI decided that time travel was a bad idea, they split off and formed The Others. Dick recruited Ben because he knew about his mom.
f. When they travel back in time, they do not change age. However, anything that happened in the “future” to their bodies does not apply. This is why Locke and Rose are cured. It would also explain why they cannot die.
g. Fate will not allow any major changes to the course of time . . . this is why the women can’t have babies. If they somehow do, the price is their lives.

4. I think it is a combo of Sci-Fi Time Travel Story and a big ole Allegory.

5. The Hurley-Burley – Hugo immediately tells everyone that he does not want his money or anything bought with the money. He believes this will keep him safe. Too bad the speedometer of the reconstructed car doesn’t agree.

6. This week in Lost Literature: We revisit the Wizard of Oz; “There’s No Place Like Home.” This, of course, fits with the whole time travel/alternate reality idea.

7. Sawyer had some zingers last night; it was nice to see James back in the game. “Genghis” – Miles. “You don’t get to die alone.” – Jack.

8. EXPLOSIVES: Do you think Jin is going to be blown to bits? How is Sun going to get off that freighter with Aaron? Does this mean my Des is going to die? He better not! What about Michael? Does the whole not dying thing mean that if he explodes he will somehow regenerate? That would be cool. Who rigged up the boat to explode? Was it Michael?

9. THIS WEEK IN BIBLE STUDIES: Not too much this week – but an interesting biblical fact – Aaron was 123 when he died. 1-23.

10. BADASS OF THE WEEK: Sun for putting the smackdown on Daddy. She says, “Two people are responsible for my husband’s death, and you are one of them.” Who was the other?

11. THE I-CALLED-IT AWARD: Goes to Your Loyal Lost Loser. I said Jack knows that Aaron is his nephew. Do you think Ms. Littleton knows that Aaron is her grandson?

12. Ben’s best line: “John, I told you, I always have a plan.” Runner up: “That’s a 15 year old cracker.”

13. One of the gunmen w/ Keamy is Ishmael, who Ben told Sayid had killed Nadia.

14. BEST LINE OF THE NIGHT: “JESUS IS NOT A WEAPON” HA!

15. Who does Ben communicate with via reflection? Was it Richard? Is that why he surrounds Jack and Sawyer in the jungle? Where did all these Others come from? Could it be the future?

I stayed up way past my bedtime last night just for you, so I’m sure I a missing some stuff. Don’t hide in the jungle!

Next week on Lost Loser Ramblings: There’s no episode next week, but I will be posting a special surprise I have been working on. Hint: It has to do w/ names.

Namaste,

Cabin Fever

That was a tense episode! Poor Locke. His whole life spent being beaten down . . .

1. This was the first flashback in a while. The only other one was the parallel episode with Jin’s flashback and Sun’s flashforward. Do you think there is significance to these two characters being the only ones w/ flashbacks?

2. What we learn about Lil Locke:
* He was the smallest baby to survive at that hospital up until his birth.
* His mother, Emily, was having an affair with a man “twice her age.” Anthony Cooper/Tom Sawyer did not seem that much older than Locke’s mom when we met them last season. Is he really Locke’s father? Or could it be someone else?
*Richard Alpert is present at Locke’s birth. It seems the island has been waiting for him to be ready for his whole life.
*John draws a picture of Smokey as a little boy.
*Richard indicates that John has owned items before. Perhaps in a previous life? He is disappointed by Locke’s choice of the knife, but he doesn’t give up on him entirely . . .
* John chooses the vial of sand (island?), the compass, and the knife. He does not choose a mitt, The Book of Laws, the comic.
*John fights his destiny by rejecting the invitation to Science Camp at Mittelos Labaratories. He is beginning to question science.
*He has a Geronimo Jackson poster in his locker.

3. THIS WEEK IN LOST LITERATURE: This one is for Rob and Cyndi – Horace Goodspeed is living the Myth of Sissyphus. He is endlessly cutting down trees.

Great Line #1: “Someone’s been making all that ranch dressing that you like.” -- Locke to Hurley

5. On the boat --
--It would appear that Sayid and/or Des ratted out Michael to Martin Keamy.
--Michael cannot be killed, once again. Again I ask, how does the island decide who it wants to keep alive? What do these people have in common – Locke, Michael, Rose, Ben (?), Claire, Christian.
-- Keamy has a secret file that tells where Ben might be going. Is this a reference to moving the island?
-- Has Keamy made himself a human bomb?
-- They kill the doc who washed ashore previously. That means the island is in the future.
--Des will not leave the boat now that he thinks Penny is coming to get him.
-- Frank tries to avoid going back to the island because he doesn’t want any part of the torching. He gives in because of the crazy-ass Keamy killing people.
--Keamy is apparently on a mission the Capt knew nothing about.

6. THIS WEEK IN BIBLICAL STUDIES:
--When John is born, his mother cries out, “His name is John.” This is a direct reference to John the Baptist’s birth. Does this mean that John will be responsible for “baptizing” the savior of the island? Would that be Jack? Or maybe Sawyer?

7. In the Jungle, the mighty Jungle . . .
--Ben indicates that John is now taking his place as the protector of the island.
--John finds the cabin after digging through the bodies and finding the blueprints.
--When he enters the cabin, he finds not Jacob but (gasp here) Christian! And even more (bigger gasp) Claire! Christian informs him that:
--Aaron is where he needs to be (w/Sawyer)
--He needs to move the island. How will he do this?
--So why is Claire content to be w/ Christian? She seems like she might be hypnotized or something to me.

Do you think Christian is good? Do you think Christian is God?

9. Hurley’s magical powers – he can keep a candy bar in his pocket while running through the jungle, and it doesn’t melt.

10. Greatest line of the night: “Destiny is a Fickle Bitch.” Ben.

11. In a scene that we saw before, Locke is in physical rehab. His nurse explains that he needs to keep trying. Only this time, it is revealed that Matthew Abadon is that nurse. He believes in miracles. He went on a walkabout. He experiences a miracle. He tells Locke that when they meet again, “You’ll owe me.” Spooooooky!

12. Frank drops a sat phone on the beach. Jack thinks it means they should follow them. I think it is for them to be able to hide.

13. Horace was the guy that brought Ben and his dad to the island.

So, who is a bigger badass? Ben or Martin Reamy? Looking forward to your comments. The preview looked awesome, by the way.

Something Nice Back Home

Happy Friday!

While I did do a fair share of vomiting in my mouth last night from being exposed to way too much Kate, I thought it was a great episode, even though I think it may have raised more questions than answers (which I know some of you just love).

1. A little parenting advice for Kate – I don’t know about you, but I don’t spend nearly as much time as Kate does running around in my underwear. I mean, seriously, that boy is going to have some serious Oedipal problems if she doesn’t put some pants on soon!

2. Why Rose and Bernard Rule:
a. “Watch your tone, Red”
b. Rose raises the best question of the night – “Why is Jack sick? You don’t get sick here; you get well.” I have been wondering the same thing for months – why did Ben get sick? Why do some people die and some don’t?
c. Bernard has mad-dentist skills – he can put a man out like nobody’s business.

3. Timeline clarification – Jack’s previous flashforwards (including the finale of last season) have been taking place, for the most part, AFTER tonight’s episode. When he meets Kate at the airport, they have broken up.

4. Where did Kate get all that money?

5. For Evan – my vote for Chuck Norris badass award: a tie – Jin and Sawyer. Jin with his threat to break all of Daniel’s fingers, Jin with his “I’m the guy who’s gonna put a boot in your face” threat to Miles if he doesn’t observe the “restraining order.”

6. Speaking of Sawyer – he is sooo falling for Claire. Too bad she’s gonna die any minute now.

7. THIS WEEK IN LOST LITERATURE: Alice in Wonderland. We’ve encountered this before, especially in “Through the Looking Glass.” Jack reads a key passage – “Who in the world am I? That’s the great puzzle.” And isn’t that what everyone is really discovering on the island?

8. Hurley Time: Poor, poor Hugo! He believes that he is really dead; that all the Oceanic 6 are really dead. What do you think?

9. A message from Charlie: “You’re not supposed to raise him, Jack.” “Someone’s gonna visit you, too.” Why isn’t Jack supposed to raise Aaron? Is Kate? The husband had a good theory – SAWYER is supposed to raise Aaron (as he is the one who finds him). What do you think?

10. Speaking of Aaron – THIS WEEK IN BIBLE STUDIES: Let’s revisit Aaron. Aaron is the brother of MOSES. He is the one who gave in to the people and started worshipping the Golden Calf, the sin of idolatry. Perhaps this is why it is so important that the right person raise him. Here’s my thought – Jack has made himself a martyr. Throughout the episode, he keeps talking about how he “Saved” or is going to “save” everyone. Perhaps he is the false idol? Perhaps that is why Aaron cannot be raised by him.

11. Why didn’t Smoky kill the soldiers from last week?

12. What is Kate doing for Sawyer? Why does Jack give a poo? It’s not like he is there. Could she be finding his daughter for him? Also very important, Sawyer CHOSE to stay on the island.

13. Jack seems to know that he is Aaron’s uncle, don’t you think?

14. HOLY CRAP MOMENT: Claire wakes up to find Christian holding Aaron. She calls him “Dad.” Which is odd, since she hated him and only discovered he was her father right before he died.

15. Is Christian supposed to be God?

16. Miles can hear the murder of Danielle and Carl. He also reveals that he “didn’t sign up for this.” Miles and Lapidus seem to be caught unknowingly caught up in something (love Lapidus!), while Daniel and Charlotte seem in on the whole thing.

17. Best line of the night: Miles – “I would have followed them, but I have a restraining order.”

Gotta get back to planning prom . . . yes, you read that right.

Your Loyal Lost Loser

The Shape of Things to Come

Have you missed me? I have to say that El Donk and I were feeling a little abandoned after the last episode. Don’t make us go Benjamin-Linus on your arses this week!

So what is the “Shape of Things to Come”?:

1. THROWING UP IN MY MOUTH MOMENT: Why in the world did they open the episode with a semi-strip tease by Kate? Seriously, the bile in my mouth didn’t go away until the episode was almost over.

2. On the Beach:
-- Vincent returns! (and so did Smokey . . . coincidence? I think not!)
-- Jack is popping painkillers and lying about it . . . antibiotics my ass!
-- Dead Guy discovered by Bernard (who is so much smarter than he gets credit for) and Vincent is the doctor from the boat . . . more on this later.

3. You sunk my battleship! -- Hurley, Sawyer, Locke, and Aaron are involved in a mad game of Battleship. Hurley states, “We’re all gonna die.” Should we read something into that?
*****”Australia is the key to the whole game!”

4. At the Barracks:
-- How dumb are these people? They all come running out one after another when they hear gunshots. Seriously – who does that?
-- Miles rings the doorbell. Classic.
-- Martin Christopher Keamy leads the invasion to capture Ben. He is also the captain of the boat. We learn he is a mercenary who did some bad stuff in Uganda.

5. Why is Hurley the only one who knows how to find Jacob? And is THIS what he was referring to when he told Jack in the future, “I shouldn’t have gone with Locke”? I ask because . . .

6. I think Claire is going to get killed soon.

7. Speaking of Claire, do you think James (aka Sawyer) is developing a thing for her? He kept calling her “sweetheart.”

8. HOLY CRAP MOMENT #1: Keamy shoots Alex. “He changed the rules.”

9. Ben can control Smokey somehow. We watched Smokey over and over, and we could make out some vague faces and shapes that looked like they might be Polar Bears. Anyone see anything else?

10. Flashforward:
--Ben can clearly control his ability to Jump back and forth in time.
-- He first goes to Tunisia where he delivers one of the great lines of the night after shooting one of the Bedouins: “Oh, so you do speak English.” Ha!

n His next stop is Tunisia, where he checks in as Dean Moriarty (see this week in Lost Literature). It is 10/21/2005. He sees Sayid on a television report. He sees an opportunity . . .
n To go to Tikrit and trick Sayid into becoming his very own mercenary

11. Sayid:
-- Found and married Nadia. They were living in LA when she was killed.
-- Apparently his little tryst with Shannon didn’t mean much.
-- His grief “becomes anger and never goes away,” just as Ben tells him it will.
-- So now we know why he works for Ben

12. THIS WEEK IN BIBLICAL STUDIES:
-- The man who Ben claims killed Nadia is named Ismael:
Ishmael is also a biblical name. He was Abraham's first son, who was born not of his wife, but of her servant, whom he had also married. Ishmael's half-brother was Issac, who was the father of Jacob.
-- And even more interesting:
Both Jewish and Islamic traditions consider Ishmael as the ancestor of Arab people. [1]
Judaism has generally viewed Ishmael as wicked though repentant.[1] Judaism maintains that Isaac (the father of the Jewish people) rather than Ishmael was the true heir of Abraham.[3] The New Testament contains few references to Ishmael. Biblically, Ishmael is used to symbolize the older - now rejected - Judaic tradition; Isaac symbolizes the new tradition of Christianity.[1] Islamic tradition, however, has a very positive view of Ishmael, giving him a larger and more significant role. The Qur'an views him as a prophet. According to the interpretation of some early theologians whose view prevailed later, Ishmael was the actual son that Abraham was called on to sacrifice, as opposed to Isaac.[1][4]
We’re entering a whole new realm here . . . Sayid has now “killed” his own belief system.

13. My boy Bernard: He reveals the truth of the Morse code message . . . and therefore forces Ferraday to admit that there was never any intention of getting the Losties off the Island.

14. THIS WEEK IN LOST LITERATURE:
-- Ben uses the alias “Dean Moriarty” – the “Hero” of On the Road by Kerouac
-- Ismael is also the name of the captain in Moby Dick
--The Shape of Things to Come by HG Wells -- The book is dominated by Wells's belief in a world state as the solution to mankind's problems
-- Desmond is never gonna find Penelope; his Odyssey will go on forever . . .

15. Ben’s final jump – Widmore’s penthouse suite in London. Some interesting things are revealed:
-- Widmore is frickin hilarious: “You stand there with those horrible eyes of yours”
-- Widmore can’t be killed . . . but Penelope can.
-- Widmore also says, “Everything you have, you took from me.” What does this mean?!

16. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH LOCKE? THEY BETTER EXPLAIN HIS LAMENESS PRETTY SOON!

So now it is your turn . . . what did you discover? What questions do you have? Would you make out with Ben?

Namaste,
Your Loyal Lost Loser

Meet Kevin Johnson

This is it for a few weeks, so enjoy . . .

First of all, I’m sure that Evan was quite disappointed that not once did Michael say, “where’s my boy?” or any variation of said phrase. I waited for it all night, but to no avail.

2. On the Island . . .
Ben is playing head games, and everyone is falling for it. Someone posted that they would be willing to make out with him . . . I think she (or he for all I know) is also under the spell of Mr. Linus.
Ben convinces Alex, his “daughter”, and Carl, and the infamous mom-jean-wearing Danielle that for Alex’s protection they need to head to “The Temple.” A great line occurs when Carl inquires why they don’t know about this; Ben replies, “It wouldn’t be a sanctuary if everyone knew about it, would it?” We’ll come back to these three later.

Another shout out to Mama Cass – Michael is listening to “It’s Getting Better” when he first attempts to kill himself. Mama Cass is also a favorite of Desmond, who plays “Make Your Own Kind of Music” when Kate and Locke first enter the hatch.

Mr. Friendly returns! Tom (who was killed (?) in the season finale last year, finds Michael in Manhattan and tells him all about his new duties. Mr. Friendly apparently enjoys a jaunt of the island once in a while to enjoy the finer things in life – like Arturro.

This week in Biblical Studies:
While most of us probably think of Michael the Angel when we think about Michaels in the Bible (Patron Saint of the Warriors, by the way), my research has led to an even better biblical reference: In the Bible, one of the Benjamites is named Michael – here’s what you need to know about the Benjamites (I think I am going to start calling myself a Benjamite):
Battle of Gibeah was a biblical battle that involved the
Tribe of Benjamin of Israel against other tribes. According to the Book of Judges, an incident of gross inhospitality by part of the tribe resulted in hostility, in which the other tribes of Israel sought vengeance, and after which the surviving members of Benjamin were systematically slaughtered, including women and children; when Benjamin was nearly extinguished, it was decided that the tribe should be allowed to survive, and all the men from another town were slaughtered, so that their wives could be re-wed to the surviving men of Benjamin – Sound familiar?
· More about Benjamin in the Bible: The youngest of Jacob's sons. His mother Rachel died in giving him birth. As she felt death approaching she called him Benoni, "son of my sorrow." Fearing, probably, that this might bode evil for the child--for names have always preserved a peculiar significance in the East--Jacob called him Benjamin, "son of the fight hand"

Michael is being haunted by Libby – why not Ana Lucia? Is she too drunk and bitter to haunt him?
THE ISLAND WON’T LET YOU DIE: This is what Tom tells Michael and what appears to be true. So the big questions are:
does the Island pick and choose who it will let die? Or are all these folks we thought were dead really alive somewhere?
If Ben is one who cannot die, why did he need Jack to operate?
Is this why Locke is able to heal so quickly, because he is at one with the island?
Will Nikki and Paulo being crawling out of their graves soon to annoy the crap out of us?
Does the Island not letting one die depend on the acts of the person? It seems like a lot of people who have killed others are not allowed to die.

8. This week in Lost Literature:
The game show Michael watches while attempting to shoot himself makes reference to Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five, in which Billy Pilgrim time travels . . . hmmm . . .
Minkowski asks Michael if he is going “Jack Nicholson” on them, referring to “The Shining.” This story also parallels what is happening to folks on the boat who are going mad, as well as perhaps some on the Island.

9. Ben contacts Michael and tells him that he did not actually use a bomb because he doesn’t want to kill the “innocent” people on the boat. He claims he only kills when he is at war, and he doesn’t want to kill innocents because he is “one of the good guys” (a recurring phrase used by Ben when trying to convince Michael to do something bad). He claims that he has a “HIGHER PURPOSE” (this is all so biblical . . . )

10. Michael apparently really wants to be good but he is one weak m-fer! He told Walt what he did; who does that to a kid?!

11. All Things Boat:
In the flashback, Miles knows that Kevin Johnson isn’t really M’s name, but doesn’t seem too concerned
Frank reveals that he believes that 815 wreckage was staged. **He says Widmore believes him.** Is Widmore really responsible, then, for the staged bodies as Ben maintains?
Capt Gault beats one of the shippers, stating, “The rules of discretion still apply to everyone. Remember what happened to the last two men who left this ship?” Hmmmm. . . .

12. Best line of the night: “We kinda like knew that a million years ago” – Hurley

13. HOLY CRAP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT: Carl is shot, and then the real Holy Crap moment – Danielle is shot! You know who is responsible, right? . . .

13. BEN! HE IS AT WAR AND CARL AND DANIELLE ARE HIS ENEMIES . . . they had the balls to try and take Alex away from him.

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll be back April 25th. Remember that ABC is being evil and moving LOST to 9:00 (that’s 10:00 for you Eastern Time Zoners!) That is going to be rough!

Namaste,

Ji Yeon

Talk about red herrings! That whole episode had you believin’ (but not me, of course) that Jin and Sun were living happily ever after w/ little Ji Yeon. Why do Jin and Sun always make me cry? Why?

1. Jin and Sun:
-- a flash forward and a flash back, but did you know it?
-- Sun is an Oceanic Six . . . which means if we believe that Aaron is also one, we know the whole set. But do we believe that Aaron is one? He wasn’t technically a survivor since he wasn’t born yet.
-- another possible red herring – did you all think the fact that Sun’s doctor was “at a conference” and her baby was delivered by a doctor she didn’t know was going to mean something? It didn’t seem to!
--Jin is dead set on buying a Panda, so we are led to believe there is some sort of “kharma” attached to having a panda for his baby’s birth. Lo and behold, he wants the Panda so he can get in good w/ a Chinese businessman.
--More to come . . .

2. Korean 101:
Jin = “jewel”
Sun = “goodness”
Ji Yeon = “postpone”

So why do you think Jin so badly wanted to have a girl and name her “Ji Yeon”?

3. The boat, “KHARMA”
-- rhymes with Dharma
-- We open seeing Frank. Mean ole Keamy who warns him not to be late. To what?
-- When Des and Sayid ask if there has been contact w/ the island, Frank lies and says no.
-- What was the deal w/ Des’ hair? He looked like a bad Head and Shoulders model.
-- Someone was banging on the pipes – I’m thinking it was morse code. Anyone fluid in morse code?
-- We finally meet the captain after Regina (the woman who has been answering the Sat phone) covers herself in heavy chains and throws herself overboard. Captain Gault doesn’t seem to care, but claims it is because he doesn’t want to lose any other men.
-- What Cpt Gault tells them:
· Kharma owned by Charles Widmore
· Black box from 815
· Wreckage found/staged (implies it was done by Ben)
· 324 bodies – where does someone get 324 bodies
--“Kevin Johnson” passes a note through the door to Des and Sayid – “Do not trust the captain” – but should we trust the note sender . . .
--KJ is Michael!! We all knew it, but now it is confirmed. And, hey, let’s not complain about it . . . we’re all always bitchin’ about the lack of answers . . .
-- So Michael is Ben’s man . . . what is he supposed to do and why? And where is Wily Walt?
--Whose blood was on the wall?

4. Juliet dogs out Sun. Cold but necessary.

5. Speaking of Juliet – how about those boobs? My god!

6. This week in Bible Studies: Jin and Bernard the fishermen –
Jesus made his disciples “fishers of men” – they were to “catch” people back from judgment and save their souls. Bernard helps Jin “do the right thing”

7. This week in Lost Literature:
--Captain Gault --is a fictional sea captain created by English writer William Hope Hodgson. A captain for hire - Gault is a morally ambiguous and mysterious character. A collection of his stories can be found in the book Captain Gault, Being the Exceedingly Private Log of a Sea-Captain, published in 1917.
--Atlas Shrugged: Alternately the name of the
Kahana's captain may be a reference to a character in Ayn Rand's 1957 novel, which is a story about the producers, the movers and shakers in society who decide go on strike because they are not appreciated by the masses, and create a separate utopian world, a "village" hidden from view from people, planes and the world
--Survivors of the Chancellor: Regina was reading this novel by Jules Verne. The story is about the final voyage of a British sailing vessel, the Chancellor, told from the perspective of one of its passengers (in the form of a diary).

8. The best lines of the night came not from the episode but from my husband (but an honorable mention to Jin for “Where Sun goes, I go”):
--on baby Ji Yeon’s birth mess: “She has six clumps of goo on her head representing the Oceanic “
-- on Jin giving Sun dinner: “He’s giving her fish loaded with Mercury is what he’s doing.”

9. Why is Hurley the only one who comes to see cutie baby Ji Yeon?

10. Here’s the biggie . . . the tombstone:
-- Jin was born in 1974 (therefore a totally age appropriate match for most of us ladies)
-- There is a mystery date that maybe some of you can decipher – 3/20/1984
-- And here’s the big one – Jin’s date of death? – 9/22/2004 – the date of the crash. This leads to all kinds of complicated questions – how was Baby Ji Yeon conceived if her father was dead? Is he really dead or just on the island? Does this confirm that there is an alternate world? And, therefore, does that mean that the crash wreckage was actually real? My brain hurts . . .

The Other Woman

Are you starting to agree that I am brilliant? I’m callin’ ‘em left and right . . . but my dear Christopher called one last night (teaser alert).

1. First of all, let me just say that the Island apparently has a really bad plastic surgeon. Harper Stanhope has some serious botox flaws and collagen overinjections. She looks a little like the infamous Cat Woman of New York. No wonder Goodwin sleeps on the couch!

2. The title of the episode has three meanings:
-- Juliet is the other woman in Goodwin and Harper’s marriage
-- Juliet is the other woman in Jack and Kate’s relationship (vomiting thinking about it . . . come on, Jules, you can do better)
-- Juliet is the “Other” woman

3. Juliet –
-- Is her name a reference to Will Shake’s Romeo and Juliet? Her love life seems to be a pattern of doomed relationships.
-- she looks good in a bikini (I have a little girl crush on Juliet. There, I said it!)
-- Reveals that “the immune system turns on the fetus” in pregnant women.
-- Ben is in love/obsessed with her. According to Harper, she “looks just like her.” Who is “her”?
-- Ben tells her “You’re mine.” Apparently her mad doc skills weren’t the only reason Ben brought her to the island.
-- Would you want to make out with Ben? I’m thinking he doesn’t get much play on the Island, or in the real world for that matter.
-- Ben refers to “the list” again. He talks about the children from the plane, Zach and Emma.

4. Who is Harper Stanhope?
-- Goodwin’s wife
-- Island shrink
-- SHE TRIED TO HAVE A BABY! The question is IS SHE DEAD? If so, why can Jack see her, too?
-- Is she really mean and spiteful or just a woman spurned?

5. Our continuing course in Lost Literature:
-- The Tempest by William Shakespeare: It tells the story of the sorcerer Prospero and his daughter Miranda, who are stranded on a mysterious desert island that has mystical properties. Prospero raises a storm, or tempest, which causes a passing ship containing his enemies to run aground. Using magic, spirits and a man-beast creature named Caliban, he separates and manipulate the survivors of the wreck for his own purposes. The play ends with Prospero restored to his former glory. Ben would then be Prospero and he is using the survivors to restore himself to glory and defeat C.W.
-- (This one I did not recognize on my own) Empty Cradle: The name of Harper Stanhope could be a reference to the book Empty Cradle by Karen Harper. In it, a woman wanting a baby heads to a fertility clinic in New Mexico run by a Dr. Stanhope, a feminist embryologist who is stealing the eggs of her patients and using them in experiments with drugs that can cause birth defects.
--VALIS – will somebody please read this book?!

6. Poor Goodwin – was bringing down the plane done partly to get rid of him? Ben is one twisted MFer!

7. Juliet and Jack heard the same voices that Hurley did . . . the only words I can understand are “Somebody’s comin . . .”

8. For some reason, I really like Daniel Ferraday. He is like a little puppy dog. A really smart one.

9. I wish that Charlotte had killed Kate, and that Kate had killed Charlotte.

10. Are Charlotte and Daniel good or bad?

11. I told you so! Charles Widmore is the man trying to find the island and he is key to the final mystery.
--Who was he holding captive, by the way?
-- Ben tells Locke that thousands of people will come to the island . . . because of miracles like Locke walking.

12. What are they doing to my boy Locke?!! Seriously, are they just going to ruin that character?! I’m so angry by his portrayal this season. Or does he know something we don’t?

13. Which leads me to Chris’ call for the night . . . BEN’S MAN ON THE BOAT IS MICHAEL.

14. This week in Bible Studies: King David (Ben) tries to seduce Bathsheba (Juliet) away from her true love Uriah (Goodwin). King David sends Bathsheba's husband, Uriah the Hittite, into battle so "that he might be struck down, and die" just as Ben sent Juliet's lover, Goodwin, in harms way for an extended period of time among the tail section survivors to die

15. Though this wasn’t my favorite episode so far, it did have some of the best lines all season:
--“It [the rabbit Locke is serving for dinner] didn’t have a number on it, did it?” - Ben
--“Don’t you understand, You’re mine . . . Take all the time you need.” - Ben
-- “I taped over the game.” – Ben
-- “She’s mean and spiteful.” “She’s my wife.” – Juliet and Goodwin
--“There’s going to be a battle. And Ben’s going to win.” -- Juliet
And in a tie for best lines of the night . . .
n “It’s hard being an Other, Jack” – Juliet
n “See you guys at dinner.” -- Ben

So if 5000 people will go to Florida to see mold that looks like the Virgin Mary . . .

Namaste,
Your Loyal Lost Loser

The Constant

“What do you expect to find?”

“Answers.”

And we got some . . .

1. Desmond – so do you prefer your rugged Scotsman w/ long hair or short hair? I was kind of diggin’ Des circa 1996. Kinda sexy

2. The “jumping” of Desmond between 1996 and 2004 confirms a few things:
--There is a time warp connected to the island
--The Island is highly electromagnetic
--Desmond is hot in both decades

3. This week in Lost Literature:
We’ve discussed a number of times the references to the Odyssey. Clearly, Des is Oddyseus and Penelope is, well, Penelope. To review the classical story:
--Penelope waits for the return of her husband for 20 years. So far, our Penny has only had to wait 8 . . . but she seems willing to wait as long as necessary
--Penelope and Odysseus have a son (hmm . . .)
--Odysseus returns to his wife in disguise as a suitor (an old beggar)
--In the Hero’s Journey – Penelope is the device that allows for the triumph of the hero. Will Des be our final hero on this long, convoluted journey.

4. The course of true love never did run smooth . . .
--Des hastily dumped Penny and ran off to join the army.
--Daddy Widmore hates Desmond, and if you recall, he worked hard to thwart their romance from the beginning (more on this later . . .)
--Penelope lives on Cheyne Walk, home of the famous, like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
--Des can hardly get together change for the pay phone.

5. “The Black Rock”
--This is the ship on the island. A painting and journal from one of its captains is being auctioned.
--The journal was found near Madagascar – the place we saw Charlotte in her flashback (or forward)
--It was owned by Tovar Hanso, ancestor of the founders of the Dharma Initiative
--Mr. Charles Widmore purchases it.

6. It’s all about Penny and her creepy-ass dad . . . Why else would he give Desmond her address?!!

7. Daniel Ferraday –
--I now believe that in the premiere, his was a flash forward. He started crying about the discovery of Oceanic 815 wreckage . . . and he said he didn’t know why. In other words, SOMETHING HAS GONE WRONG.
--Therefore, if his was a flashforward, so were those of Miles, Charlotte, and Frank. What do you think? What would all this mean?
--He had some sweet hair at Oxford. He is apparently an intellectual outcast. Others taunt his research on time travel.

8. This week in Biblical Studies: Daniel is told to set his device to 2.342 at 11hz. This is what Daniel 2 says in the bible, and it totally fits!!:
·

1. In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. 2. So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, 3. he said to them, "I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means. " 4. Then the astrologers answered the king in Aramaic, "O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it." 5. The king replied to the astrologers, "This is what I have firmly decided: If you do not tell me what my dream was and interpret it, I will have you cut into pieces and your houses turned into piles of rubble. 6. But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me." 7. Once more they replied, "Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will interpret it." 8. Then the king answered, "I am certain that you are trying to gain time, because you realize that this is what I have firmly decided: 9. If you do not tell me the dream, there is just one penalty for you. You have conspired to tell me misleading and wicked things, hoping the situation will change. So then, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can interpret it for me." 10. The astrologers answered the king, "There is not a man on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer. 11. What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among men." 12. This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. 13 So the decree was issued to put the wise men to death, and men were sent to look for Daniel and his friends to put them to death. 14. When Arioch, the commander of the king's guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact.

--Book 11 is about a battle between the King from the South and the King of the North”, but most significant: Then a mighty king will appear, who will rule with great power and do as he pleases. -- Could it be Ben? Or Mr. Widmore?

--Daniel instructs Frank to follow 305 degrees North, a reference to Mr. Eko’s stick w/ the verse: "Lift up your eyes and look north - John 3:05".

--I CLEARLY NEED TO GO TO SEMINARY SCHOOL!

9. The Losties are told that their concept of time may be warped.

10. Fisher Stevens plays the previously mentioned George Minkowski. He is suffering the same fate as Desmond, except he has no “anchor.” I wonder if in his “jumps” he sees Steve Guttenberg and Number 5 and talks in a really stereotypical Indian accent?

11. Penny and Desmond’s conversation:
She’s been looking for him for 3 years – why just 3?
She knows about the island
She has been researching something, but the phone line cuts out before we hear what.
She confirms that she spoke to Charlie – Des and Sayid should be worried!!!!
It was really touching; I got a little teary.

12. KEY LINE OF THE NIGHT: Daniel reads in his journal, “IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG, DESMOND HUME WILL BE MY CONSTANT.” What is he expecting to go wrong?

So the real question is, will you be my constant? If I call you in 8 years, will you answer?

Eggtown

Did you fall for it? Did you? Did you? Huh? I didn’t! Boy, I am getting good at this game . . . I called it 10 minutes in.

Where to start . . .

1. Title – Eggtown is an old term for bartering. We see lots of bartering on this episode:
Kate barters to see Miles
James barters to sleep w/ Kate (why, I don’t know!)
John barters w/ Miles (although I’m not sure putting a grenade in someone’s mouth is technically “bartering” – I think we might call that coercion)
Kate’s mother barters to see “the baby”
Kate barters to keep “the baby” away from the courtroom
Kate barters for probation
Additionally, Locke serves Ben eggs and kills a chicken.

2. HOLY CRAP MOMENT: I discuss this early in the post because it ties directly to the Biblical references made . . . Kate’s “son” is actually Aaron!!!! I knew this as soon as Claire asked Kate to hold Aaron.

It is important to remember that the psychic told Claire that SHE MUST RAISE THE BABY. What will happen now that Kate is raising him? What happened to Claire? Does Jack know that Aaron is his nephew?

3. This week in Biblical Studies:
Aaron – Brother of Moses, spokesman for Moses. Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days. During that time, the people of Israel became inpatient and asked Aaron to make them gods. So Aaron collected the gold from the people and made a calf out of it. The people then presented offerings to the calf and had a big feast. Moses later recalls that God was angry enough to destroy Aaron after that. But Moses prayed for Aaron and thus he was spared. AARON CREATED A FALSE GOD . . . will baby Aaron become some sort of Damian-like child if he is not raised by Claire?
James –
Brother of John (interesting). First disciple of Jesus to be martyred. Hmmm . . . I predict our boy Sawyer will die in helping others get off of the island.
Jesus also had a brother named James.
So to whom is Sawyer a “brother”? Jack or Locke? That remains to be seen.

4. Oceanic 6 –
We now know five – Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, and Aaron (although he could be a red herring as he was born on the island and therefore wouldn’t technically be a survivor).
The official story the 6 are telling is that 8 initially survived and Kate saved them by mothering them.

5. Further additions to our future course “Lost Literature”:
· Valis by Philip K Dick – the book Locke that gives to Ben is this science fiction novel by
Philip K. Dick. VALIS is an acronym for Vast Active Living Intelligence System, which is the author's gnostic vision of one aspect of God. Dick's novels often feature protagonists immersed in dissolving or fluctuating realities. (Books)
o Notably Dick throughout his life claimed to see ghosts of his twin brother who died in child-birth
· The Invention of Morel is the book Sawyer is reading. The story is about a fugitive who hides on a deserted island somewhere in the South Pacific. (
Books) (lostpedia.com)

6. Kate (throwing up a little in my mouth):
Cried for the first time 13 minutes in and many times after. It’s good to see the Old Kate again (just kidding)
A bearded guy screams at her something about “where is . . . ?” Anyone hear it better than I did?
Continually asks people, “do you know who I am?” Does she?
NOT PREGNANT and clearly not giving it up to Sawyer for that reason (bad timing on his part)
Why does she leave the island?
Takes a deal of 10 years probation; no leaving the state. Does not want to go back to the island? Why?
Diane Janssen – she has the same last name as “The Fugitive”

7. Ben –
The dude is always beat up. He looked the same in this episode as when he was pretending to be Henry Gale.
Knows who Miles is and who he works for.
Tells Locke, “you are more lost than ever.”

8. Locke –
If the episode was about Kate, why did it open w/ Locke’s eye?
“Responsible for well-being of the island”
“No use having rules if there are no punishments for breaking them.”

9. Shippies –
Miles wants 3.2 mil from Ben and he will lie about finding him. Why 3.2?
Daniel and Charlotte are playing a memory game. Cards are Queen of Diamonds, 6 of Clubs, and Red 10 (Daniel does not remember the suite).
Have an “emergency number.” Minkowski has not been answering their calls, Regina tells them the helicopter has not made it back to the ship!! Where are the hotties?!!! Where are Desmond and Sayid?

10. What is the deal w/ Iced Tea on this island? Everyone is always serving and making Iced Tea!!!

11. Sun and Jin – Sun wants to raise her baby at home in Korea. Why in the world would she want to go back there?

12. Great lines:
“If I was a dictator, I would just shoot you and go about my day” – Locke (please do it, Locke!)
“You Scooby-Dooed me, didn’t you” -- Hurley
“I know it’s in a box, but it’s pretty good wine” -- Sawyer
“Baaa . . . nice thing about sheep; they’re predictable” -- Sawyer
“Bruce Lee” – Sawyer
“In a week you’ll get pissed at Jack and bounce back to me” -- Sawyer (Kate slaps him for this, but, seriously, she is kind of a slut)

13. Other things I noticed:
Bacgammon (sp) – Locke used to play this game w/ Walt.
Xanadu – sweet 80’s movie starring Olivia Newton John on rollerskates!
Kate listens to Patsy Cline

14. Jack loves Kate. Gag.

15. SO WHO WERE THE OCEANIC 8? Kate and Jack (and probably Hurley and Sayid) are perpetuating the story that 8 people survived but two died on the island. What happened to the other 34 people who actually initially survived the crash?

The Economist

Let me just start by saying that I am a total smarty-pants! I called it half way through . . . more to come on that in a few minutes.

1. Random trivia for the day – Rob and I discussed yesterday that Roger Linus (Ben’s dad) was Lazlo in Real Genius. You know, the guy who lived in the closet? Fun fact, huh? Maybe that is why Ben is such a freak; maybe he was conceived in a closet.

2. Something that I’ve noticed in my watching -- everyone is regularly referring to Sawyer as “James” now . . . which leads to . . .

3. This week in Bible Studies: Could “James” be the chronicler of the events in the long run? As in King James Bible. Kind of a stretch, I know.

4. Sayid’s story was told completely in flash forwards.
While golfing in the Seychelles, he meets up w/ Mr. Avilino. Mr. Avilino becomes visibly nervous after Sayid tells him that he is one of the Oceanic 6 – he is somehow connected to the cover-up or the crash, clearly. Sayid shoots him.
Sayid seduces the lovely Helsa in Berlin. She claims to work for an Economist who works in Emerging Markets. He only comes to Berlin once or twice a year, according to Helsa.
Sayid tells Helsa he is a Headhunter . . . apparently he is hunting for the head of the Economist.

5. Naomi wears a bracelet that says, “I’ll always be with you – RG.” Seems romantic, right? Helsa wears the same bracelet. Maybe it’s not so sweet . . . maybe it is a reminder to the women the Economist is always with them and they better be good (like the Tina Turner song . . . “you better be good to me . . .that’s how it’s gotta be now”)

6. Sayid is back to his old ways because HE SOLD HIS SOUL TO BEN!!!! As soon as he said, “the day I trust him [Ben] is the day I sell my soul,” I knew he was working for Ben in the Seychelles and Berlin.

My husband argues, however, that Sayid is truly evil and always has been . . . interesting.

More on this later . . .

7. Great lines of the night:
Sawyer calls Ben “Gizmo,” you know – the cute, fuzzy Gremlin!
Miles states of Naomi, “She was hot and I dug her accent.”
Hurley states of Miles, “Awesome, the ship sent us another Sawyer.”

8. Sayid tells Helsa, “Everyone has a boss” -- Does this refer to God? Is our biblical allegory shaping up further?

9. Back to the Island . . .
· Kate gets all jealous every time Juliet talks to Jack. Gag.
· Kate gets all mad when Sawyer “keeps” her in the room. Come on, most of us would pay money to be kept in a clean room w/ Sawyer! And he wants her to stay and “keep playing house.” Aww . . . too bad it is wasted on her annoying a**!
· Jack reveals it has been 100 days since he’s seen baseball. That’s only four months! Did Ben let him watch baseball?
· Desmond . . . hot . . . wants off island . . . hot . . . goes on helicopter w/ Sayid . . . hot . . . thinks they were sent by Penny, although neither Miles nor Charlotte has ever seen her . . . hot.
· I noticed a little chemistry between Desi and Juliet . . .

10. TIME WARP: Daniel asks Regina (lady on ship) to send the “payload.” It does not follow the countdown and arrives several minutes after Regina indicates it will. Daniel looks at what appears to be two clocks. Each has a different time: His says 3:16:23; the “payload” says 2:45:02

When Frank takes off in the helicopter, Daniel warns him to follow the bearings “no matter what.”

It seems they are in another dimension, perhaps?

11. Ben has a Quran on his bookshelf. He also has a secret closet behind the bookshelf where he keeps a stash of currency and passports.

12. Ok, can someone please lend Danielle a new pair of pants? Her mompants are hideous!

13. Back to Sayid and Helsa . . . her pager goes off, Sayid (who really seems to have fallen for her) warns her that she should leave Berlin. She then shoots him, as she was also playing him the whole time and knows he is after her employer. She wants to know who sent him. Sayid proceeds to kill her. How romantic.

14 WHO IS ELSA’S EMPLOYER? Could it be Mr. Widmore, Penny’s father?

15. Who is Minkowski? Frank tells Daniel he can use the satellite phone, but that he should hang up if Minkowski gets on.

16. HOLY CRAP MOMENT: Although I called it, it was still a Holy Crap moment when Sayid went to see his “employer” and it was BEN!!! Ben tells him he should “think with his gun instead of his heart” if he wants to “protect his friends.” Are these the friends on the Island? Or the other Oceanic 6?

Ben also tells him he has another name on the list. Sayid says they know he is coming. Ben says good! Who is the next target? Who covered up the crash? Who is looking for the Island and why?

17. We now know 4 of the Oceanic 6. Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sayid. We also assume that Desmond left the island (remember, he was not on the plane, so he is not one of the Oceanic 6). Obviously Ben left as well, and he is still being hunted!

18. Where the heck are Sun and Jin? What about the mysterious Walt? And Michael is supposed to be back . . . when will we see him?

19. One more thing . . . now Locke can’t find the cabin . . . did he piss off Jacob?

Phew . . . that was a lot! I think we are going to get some answers, and now we can plan on 5 more episodes before May – yay!

You better show me some love this week!

Namaste,
Your Loyal Lost Loser

Confirmed Dead

Good morning! After a week of strep throat, I am feeling good today after a night of Lost viewing and dissecting. Yes, I am a freak, I know.

As Heather and I discussed yesterday, Lost is like a really long book . . . one that is taking us a total of nine years to read. It’s kind of like my experience w/ The Brothers Karamozov!

What did we discover last night . . .

1. The news media reports that a salvaging ship called the Christiane (like Christian Shephard – hmmmm . . . ) has found the wreckage of Oceanic 815. All 344 passengers are confirmed dead. DO NOT BE SUCKED IN BY THIS. THEY ARE NOT DEAD. THEY ARE NOT IN PURGATORY. More on that later as we discuss our lovely new friends Dan, Charlotte, Myles, and Frank.

2. We first meet sad young Dan Ferraday. Things to know about him include:
· He’s really kind of pathetic. Who wears a tie to parachute onto an island?
· He’s married.
· He weeps at the news report but says he doesn’t know why.
· Michael Faraday (September 22, 1791 – August 25, 1867) was an English physicist who researched electromagnetism. Michael Faraday's discoveries led to the development of Faraday cages, an enclosure used to block outside radio and electromagnetic waves. James Clerk Maxwell took the work of Faraday, and others, and consolidated it with a set of equations that form the basis of modern theories of electromagnetic phenomena.
· His name first appeared as the season 4 clue word for chapter 2 of the Find 815 alternate reality game.
· During casting this character was named Russell. "Russell Faraday" is the alias given to the villain at the end of Stephen King's The Stand. (I love shout outs to my favorite book ever!) (lostpedia.com)
· He claims to be a physicist.
· He is from Massachusetts
· He looks like Eliot from E.T. but he is not.
3. Vincent returns! Yay! Love that crazy hound!
4. If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? Miles (like our beloved Myles) Straum (like our beloved Mrs. Strom)! What should you know about this cranky man?
· He speaks to the dead.
· He finds cash and heroin in the vent of a murdered young man’s room. He tells the ghost he can leave now. He keeps the cash but puts the drugs back. Interesting . . . and another heroin connection
· He washes up in the same place that Desmond did.
· He reveals that they are looking for Ben and has a sweet photo of Ben in a rocking 70’s era outfit. He looks like Mr. Roper!
5. Locke wants to go to the cabin. Hurley accidentally reveals that he knows about the cabin, too, but claims it is in a different direction. Does this mean the cabin moves?
6. Best line of the night: “Why are we following Colonel Kurtz?” -- Sawyer re: Locke.
7. Locke reveals that Walt spoke to him and told him where to go. The other Losties seem hesitant to follow him.
8. Beautiful moment of irony – Locke didn’t die from being shot because his father conned him out of his kidney.
9. Are the Losties the new Others? Jack pulls out the same trick on Miles and Dan that Mr. Happy did to him in the season finale of season 1. He has his “friends” surround them in the woods and fire weapons. Hmmmm . . .
10. Charlotte Staples Lewis:
· Initials are CS Lewis. Coincidence? I think not!
· She’s quite perky!
· She’s an archaelogist
· She is more interested in the collar w/ the Dharma Hydra on it than she is in the fact that they found Polar Bear remains in Tunisia! It’s like she expected it.
· I think she is a rich girl w/ a penchant for mysteries.
· Ben knows all about her
11. 37 minutes in Kate gets all pouty when Juliet shows up. But it must be a record! Kate has gone two full episodes without crying.
12. Frank Lepidas:
· A familiar face to many – Jeff Fahey (Lawnmower Man)
· Lives in Eleuthera, Bahamas
· Was supposed to be the pilot of 815
· Swears that the body of the pilot on the newsreport is not Seth Norris. He is the only one of the four that has a clear reason to be looking for the survivors of 815.
· He sees a cow. I just thought that was funny.
· He lands the helicopter
13. This week in Bible Studies –
· We have a Daniel now! Daniel means “judged by God”. Or “God is a judge”
· Some people think he is a prophet, others do not. He spoke to angels but not directly to God.
· DANIEL was among the Jews who were taken captive into Babylon about 2600 years ago. He rose to a high position in the Babylonian government. Daniel saw and described the great world empires that were to come. He also prophesied about a Messiah. (aboutbibleprophecy.com)
· Daniel 2:32-33Daniel predicted the four great kingdoms Daniel 9:24-26Daniel predicted when an anointed one would be rejected Daniel 9:26Daniel foretold the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple (aboutbibleprophecy.com)
· Carla, Evan, and I are working on a theory re: Jacob, Naomi, John, Jack, etc. Read their posts from last week . . . but we think Jack might represent Jesus, which would make me a Jesus-hater, and that wouldn’t be good. Let’s hope this theory changes.
14. Where were my hotties?!! No Jin? No Desmond? Sawyer still needs to wash his hair to be put back on this list for me. But as Heather pointed out, Locke was looking kind of good . . . quite the pectorals on that man! Hey, I will take what I can get.
15. WHO IS GEORGE?
16. People still on the freighter . . . Regina, Newcastle, and GEORGE?
17. Juliet’s last name is Burke . . . another reference to a philosopher . . . Edmund Burke. One of his famous quotes is: Man acts from adequate motives relative to his interest, and not on metaphysical speculations." That certainly fits our friend Juliet, and shows she is a major character.
18. Did anyone watch the music video that they were promoting? The picture of Kate in her skivvies probably got some of you to stay up late to watch it, but it made me want to puke. I will check it out later on Youtube.
I think I need to go spend some time w/ Hurley in the bin. I might be a tad on the crazy side myself paying this much attention to a t.v. show.
Now that I’ve written a novel, I ask you to share your opinions.

The Beginning of the End

Have you missed me? It's been eight long months since we last chatted . . . almost enough time to have a baby . . . oh, wait, I did that! And I tried to name him John Locke Saunders, but my husband wanted to name him Desmond Jin, so we went another route entirely.

So you'd think that on a snow day I would be sleeping this early in the morning, but apparently the school phone tree is on the fritz and called 3 times, and my neighbors seem to think that 5:30 is the perfect time to snowblow, despite the fact that the streets aren't plowed and no one is going anywhere. And so I am all your's at this early hour.

Here we go . . . (please be forgiving . . . I may be a little rusty)

1. Title -- Could this be a reference to the fact that the producers have set an end date for the show (3 years)? Or is it a reference to the fact that except for the Oceanic 6, all will die?

2. Speaking of the Oceanic 6, we know that Hurley, Jack (gag), and Kate (double gag) made it off the island. Who are the other three? Locke wanted to stay, so he's probably not off. However, it didn't seem like Hurley wanted to leave either, so who knows.

3. Opening scene: Hurley drives the vintage Camaro he fixed up w/ his dad (Cheech) into a pile of lemons and limes. Shouldn't he be making lemonade? You know, when life gives you lemons . . .

4. Hurley is running away from something . . . which we find out is a vision of Charlie. H wants to go back to the mental hospital to escape his "hallucination."

5. The cop who arrests Hurley is the boyfriend/husband of Ana Lucia. Remember she was preggers w/ his baby when she was shot in the line of duty. Hurley denies having known her. Why? Is there an agreement among the 6 not to talk about the other survivors? It's like Fight Club -- First rule of the Oceanic 6, no one talks about the Oceanic 48.

6. What's up w/ Baby Aaron's ears? Seriously.

7. Hurley does a cannonball upon hearing of possible rescue. And he imitates Cannonball Run in his Camaro! Coincidence? I think not.

8. Man on the satellite phone is named George Minkowski. Although note that he always responds, "who is this?" when asked who he is. He is a familiar face . . . but I can't tell you where I've seen him before.

9. Kate ALMOST cries 20 minutes in.

10. Hurley sure loves playing Connect Four. He was always seen playing it in his earlier stint at the hospital.

11. This week in Biblical Studies: Hurley receives a visit from a man claiming to represent Oceanic Airlines. His name is Matthew Abbadon.

In Hebrew Abaddon means "destruction". In Job 26:6; Proverbs 15:11 it means "place of destruction", or "realm of the dead". In Revelation 9:11, it is personified as Abaddon, "Angel of the Abyss". Many biblical scholars believe Abaddon to be Satan or the antichrist. A mistaken view since the angel "Abaddon" possesses the keys to the Abyss into which Satan is hurled or imprisoned, indicating that he serves as Satan's "jailer" and must therefore be someone else (lostpedia.com)

It is also important to note that Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, and also the most widely read. It contains the Sermon on the Mount. Maybe some of our more Biblically Educated friends can tell us more . . .

12. Mr. Abbadon asks, "Are THEY still alive?" Does he mean the other survivors or the Others?

13. Sexy Showdown -- Sawyer, Jin, and Desmond all had their shirts teasingly unbuttoned and were all glistening. Who was the sexiest? According to Cyndi, there was a sexy Sawyer montage the other night on the Pop-Up version of Through the Looking Glass.

14. Sawyer was actually nice to Hugo!

15. HOLY CRAP MOMENT: We must have watched the scene at the "cabin" 10 times trying to figure out what the whispers were saying. All I could make out was "someone's coming". And through a little bit of research, I've discovered that Good Ole Christian Shephard is the man in the rocking chair and it is presumed to be Jacob's eye that pops up in the window. But Locke shows up seconds later . . .

16. Great line #1 -- Ben, "Kate took it (the phone). I guess I should have told you, but you beat me up."

17. Before dying, Naomi says to George, "I'm sorry. Tell my sister that I love her." I think it is all baby-making related. Remember, Naomi in the Bible is an older widow who helps Rachel. Who is Naomi's sister?

18. Charlie is haunting Hurley (though we might ask how a ghost can slap someone, or why the other dude saw him). He keeps saying, "They need you." Again, who are They?

19. Locke was never going to shoot Jack (too bad). Jack was going to shoot Locke.

20. I just need to remind you that I hate Jack and Kate.

21. Poor Claire. She was totally gonna get freaky w/ Charlie!

22. Jack visits Hurley in the hospital. Hurley thinks he is there "Checking to see if I was gonna tell." What is the secret? Did they make a deal to get off the island? Jack seems to be enjoying his fame . . . we know that will change as his beard grows in. Also, Hurley apologizes for going w/ Locke. Why?

23. IMPORTANT -- "IT wants us to come back."

23. Best line #2 -- "You'd look weird with a beard."

24. So stayed up late to watch the Oceanic commercial. Of course it was during the very last break of Eli Stone. And of course it led to further time on the web. I couldn't handle it all, but here's what I got:

The commercial is spliced w/ video of a man saying "You can't trust these people" and an alternate website find815.com. If you go there (or cheat and go to YouTube like I did) you find out:

  • His name is Sam Thomas and he used to work for Oceanic
  • His girlfriend, Sonia, was on 815
  • He has been receiving weird emails from The Maxwell Group (owned by Widmore - aka Penny's family)
  • He has joined up w/ a salvaging ship called the Christiane (like Christian) searching for the sunken vessel The Black Rock.

There was also some creepy stuff going on with the flight attendant's hand in the commercial.

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks Ramblings. I know we have a couple newcomers, so I hope I have not disappointed. I need to get my groove back . . . next week for sure!

Comment away and Namaste,
