"Because You Left" and "The Lie"

Because You Left and The Lie

Jeez, that was an exhausting night! Your Loyal Lost Loser is not used to being up so late!

I watched the recap, but I think that was for newbies to the show, don’t you? One thing I noticed that they focused on a lot was the contact between Sun and Charles Widmore. So, keep your eye on these two; I certainly did during the premiere.

I don’t know about you, but I thought that these two episodes served more as set-up than they did to reveal much. However, I made a few discoveries and have a few predictions to share.

1. The episode opens at 8:14 a.m. with everyone’s favorite Orientation Film star – Marvin Candle (whose real name is revealed to be Dr. Pierre Chang). His wife wakes him to get the baby (yay for making the dad get up with the kid!). Here’s my theory – MILES IS THE SON OF DR. CHANG! More on that later . . .

2. Dr. Chang (could it be Dr. Change?) confirms that the Orchid hatch is built on top of a limitless source of energy that will allow them to manipulate time. This is further confirmed by the fact that my boy Daniel shows up.

3. Who has asked for a blood test for Aaron? Charles Widmore? Ben? Sun? Jeremy Latham (aka Locke)?

4. Sun is detained at the airport by Charles Widmore, who demands her respect. She agrees that that is “fair enough.” Do you think she is really planning to work with him or do you think that she is playing him to destroy him? Does she blame him for Jin’s death?

5. Or does she blame Kate? We know she blames her father, and she claims to CW that she blames Ben, but I think she really blames Kate for forcing her to get on the helicopter and not getting Jin in time. I know she says she doesn’t blame Kate, but the Sweet Sun has been known to lie before!

6. BACK ON THE ISLAND:
· A white light (much like that after the hatch blew) occurs and the island (or the Losties) move.
· According to Daniel, they have moved to the past.
· Another white light flashes; they move forward. To where, we’re not sure . . . but I believe they have moved to the present (2008), the same time as the O6. Why? Because Charlotte is really DEAD!
· While in the past, Daniel visits Desmond in the hatch, although he had told Sawyer not to. Daniel says the rules don’t apply to Des, and Daniel implores him to go to Oxford and find Dan’s mom (who is that? Did you get it?)
· Vincent is back! Yay!
· Richard tells Locke, “I didn’t go anywhere; you did.”
· Why the focus on Eko’s brother’s plane and the crash?

7. THIS WEEK IN BIBLE STUDIES: We return to the Virgin Mary. Once again, we see the statues used to smuggle drugs. We’ve seen references to the Virgin Mary many times – Charlie had a whole episode where he hallucinated Claire as the Virgin Mary.
Something interesting I found on Wikipedia (those with better knowledge of the Catholic faith, please correct anything):
According to the
apocryphal Gospel of James she was the daughter of Joachim and Anna. Before Mary's conception, Anna had been barren, and her parents were quite old when she was conceived. They gave her to service as a consecrated virgin in the Temple in Jerusalem when she was three years old, much like Hannah took Samuel to the Tabernacle as recorded in the Old Testament (Tanakh, Hebrew Bible).
Could it be a connection to the infertility on the island? Could Claire be the Mary of this island since Aaron was born and she survived? Still working on this one . . .

8. Why was Sawyer so desperate for a shirt? Was he afraid of distracting Juliet with his loveliness?

9. How about that killer dishwasher?

10. Best line of the night: “If you ate more comfort food, you wouldn’t have to go around shooting people.” Hurley to Sayid

11. Runner up for best line: Sawyer --“Welcome back, Dr. Wizard.”
Miles – “I believe it’s Mr. Wizard.”

12. BIG NEW THEORY: Both Miles and Charlotte were born on the island. It was after their births that the island started killing mothers. But why?

13. Questions and issues to consider this season:
Where did Kate get all her money?
Who wants to expose Aaron’s maternity? (I think it is Sun, but you may disagree)
Hurley did not want to lie! He feels betrayed by the other O6. So the question is, will he trust them?
Who the hell is Neil?
Why are Ana Lucia and Libby haunting/helping Hurley? Why these two and not Boone and Shannon or Eko?

14. Do you know who Daniel’s mother is? That’s right, it’s the lady from Desmond’s episode last season who gave him hints and guidance about what to do.

I don’t want to end without giving a shout out to my favorite dentist and his wife, Rose and Bernard! Go on with your bad selves!

So what did you think? What questions and theories do you have?

Namaste,
Your Loyal Lost Loser

Just a couple of quick comments, still trying to get back into things and haven't looked into everything yet, but here goes:
- The nose bleed, we saw this when Desmond came to visit Daniel when he was time traveling
- Kate's money; didn't they all get a sum of money after they were rescued?
- Blood test - my thoughts are it is part of the Ben/Locke way of getting Kate to go back with them - making her scared enough not to stay?!?
- As for the travel and the little notebook Daniel has, my guess is it has part to do with the being at the early time travel site as we see at teh beginning, then being visited by Desmond last year. I'm sure he plays a big part in it whether good or bad, but I'm not really sure yet where it will lead
- I think the Eko plane crash and original hatch have to do with showing more what the time-frame is rather than anything too important.....right now

That is it for now, but will read and chime in more as I hear/research things

Okay, if you all are facebook people, you will see that I admit to not watching the entire episode...I know, I know. Only the biggest night in TV history for this group and I...

Anyway, So far what we have discussed here at the Colletti house is - The Eko brother plane. Do you think because of this goofy time travel now taking place, it explains why so many people see their dead relatives? Meaning, they aren't dead when these people see them, but becuase of time changing, they come and go similar to how Locke keeps coming and going with the others?
Maybe Eko's brother survived the plane crash and died later on the island. So when Mr. Eko saw his brother a few seasons ago, he was really alive.
And about Jack's dad - maybe he was there at one time. It just seems like the time travel thing throws an element of "the writers can now come up with anything to explain something they couldn't conclude in a somewhat real way" scenario.
Michael G - I noticed the nose bleed thing too. I agree the driller person now suffers the same thing as Desmond.
Here is a question (again, maybe it happened in the hour and 45 minutes I was watching through my eyelids):
1. Are the islanders going to watch their plane crash because of this time jumping?
2. The plane that is lying at the bottom of the ocean portrayed on the news broadcast that got hairy pilot guy involved - could it be that it really is all of the flight 815 passengers, but that they all are either older or younger?

I will watch some more tonight!!

The phrase "Then God help us all" was used twice last night, once by Dr. Chang at the beginning and once right at the end by that strange lady that Ben reported to. Seemed a little weird. Who the heck was that woman?

For some reason, I can't help but think that Sun is being genuine when she says she doesn't blame Kate. But I do think she's setting her up to go back to the island. That is why Sun says she admires Kate's ability to make the hard decision (i.e. going back). So I guess it could have been her who sent the lawyers to Kate's house to flush her out and make her desperate to do anything to keep Aaron.

I NEED answers to the Miles character--it's driving me nuts! He has those weird communication powers and I don't understand how they relate to the story at this point. Frustrating!

I liked Ben's line to Jack about Locke being rolled up in a carpet van outside, but I knew that Kate would pick a Hurley line as her favorite--he's starting to annoy me with all his black and white morality. Grow a pair, man!

I believe the strange lady is Daniel's mother, but she is also the woman who Desmond met in the jewelry shop and on a few other occasions.

Rob, stop being so cold-hearted and find the love for Hurley. But, I did also like the line from Ben!

Hottie award for the night clearly went to Sawyer, but if I were a man I would perhaps give it to Juliet. She was looking pretty hot!

Michael -- I missed the nosebleed connection! So either she is dead (my original theory) or she is going to be able to change events in time like Des can. Hmmmm . . .

Hey everyone- great notes, Kate - so, when Neil came on, we're like "red shirt" - any star trek fans? - not only was he wearing a red shirt, he predictably got killed before the end of the episode. I think that and Sawyer's hunt for a shirt were the writer's making fun of themselves.
I like your idea, Kate, about Myles being Chang's son. I def. agree.
re the blood test - I like Michael's suggestion that it is designed to get her to return. It could be Widmore, too - remember Clare's backstory, that fortune teller that she saw told her that her son would be fine if he were raised by her, not "others" - maybe he has some special quality (like myles) for being born on the island and widmore wants to get him to use him for evil - or whatever his motive is.
It's good to have lost back in my life! I hope it's a good season - and that it doesn't take the entire season to get them back on the island!

I'm agree with everything Michael said ... wow, I bet my husband WISHES I'd said that re: him... :)

Anyway... I can't help but think Sun's in on something with CW. I don't she's forgiven Kate at all. Oh, and for a minute, I thought that maybe Chang's baby was Sun.

Wait, I'm lost re: Charlotte. When was she dead? I know the nosebleed is a sign that death is imminent thanks to the Desmond epi. last year, but did I miss her death this ep?

I am terrible at remembering things (just ask my kids) - but did Desmond die? I know he has the nose bleed thing going, but how is it that he is laying in bed with Penny 3 years later and not dead since he had the nose bleed thing going.
Hey Loyal Lost Loser - good on the jewelry connection (are you saying that the engagement ring sales lady is the same lady?)
Yes, I agree Sun can't be trusted. After all, if Charles Widmore went to this length to set up a fake plane at the bottom of the ocean, don't you think he would have a few "plants" on the plane in the first place??

First time posting a comment, but I love reading your recaps! I agree with all of your "findings", and I have another finding to add to yours, I have a feeling that the guy who was ordering the dude to chop off Juliette's hand is/was Charlotte's Dad. Might fall in with the whole thing that she was born on the island? Definitely think Myles is Dr. Chang's son and that Daniel's mom is that lady from the jewelry store/lady in photo on monk's desk.

Okay, so I'm a week late, and watching Lost tonight made me think of things I wanted to post this past week, but I completely forgot. Here are the comments Grant and I have on Episode 1 of this season:
-Sawyer looks like he's gained weight...what's with that?!
-And, Juliette's ta-ta's look smaller...not that we are focusing on looks here.
-We thought that there was A LOT going on to figure out...maybe a little too much for us to watch our late at night.
-I'm pretty sure sometime last season we found out that Kate's money came from the settlement.
-As far as the blood test, we have no idea who wants it to be done.

I have SO much I want to post about the new episode tonight that we just watched, but I'll save them until tomorrow and respond to your next post.

Glad to be back posting with everyone!!!
